about

I always wanted a dog as a child (and no doubt there'll be a song about that one day too!) but we had cats. Our first cat followed my Dad home from the pub one evening. Mum fed her and that was that. She was a real traveller of a cat, disappearing for weeks at a time, leading her to be called Gypsy. She was a huge part of our childhood, especially on winter nights, laying soon our backs by the fire. It's only fair she got a song in her name.

lyrics

Chasing our tails on a full and moonlit night
Winter waves a'crashing, stars a'shining bright
The stumble home began anew with strangers hand in hand
A slow and casual amble to return unto our land

The liquor was strong and sufficient,
raising spirited souls into flight

She crept closely behind us but not so we could tell
A sound within a silence, a linger with no smell
Her hair was black as evil, and her green eyes hinted calm
With mystery and magical where silver crossed her palm

We felt the felt feeling that followed
As it dawned on us what we had found, falling for a gypsy

Eleven years she stayed with us for little more than food
A simple bed to rest her head though very seldom used
A shelter on a rainy day, a spot laid by the fire
And no attempts to stray from us and no hints of desire

Before her we had nothing missing
Though we may not feel complete again, fallen for a gypsy
